Background on Healthcare Committee of Collin County

HCCC has been operating for about a few years now but has recently been incorporated in the State of Texas and awarded IRS nonprofit status. HCCC has monthly meetings and has conducted many educational forums to share need and background information to the community.

The general membership has branched off into Focus Groups to better address particular needs or projects that have surfaced through our research and Public Forums. We currently have four Focus groups.

The Indigent Healthcare Focus Group(IHFG) is researching Federally Qualified Health Centers(FQHC’s)to provide access to medical care for the uninsured, underinsured and indigent population in a sustainable model that brings jobs, Federal funding and most importantly access to healthcare in a cost effective way.

The Mental Healthcare Focus Group(MHFG) is working on Jail Diversion and bringing needed support services to the community to support this effort.

The Intellectual and Developmental Dissability(IDD) Focus Group is working on a “Village” concept for the post-high school special needs population and the possibilities in our community to support them.

The Childhood Obesity Focus Group is evolving to develop school educational/Nutrition programs and possibly Farm to school meal programs to bring healthy fresh food to our students in the school systems serving our County. The Grant Writing Focus Group is there to help identify grants and funding sources to support the Focus group efforts.

Over the past 18 months we have developed a busy agenda of educational meetings and collaborative groups. We see ourselves as continuing these efforts and influencing our community to actively address Healthcare/Mental Healthcare needs in Collin County. It continues to amaze and impress us to see people give of their time and talent to address concerns in the community and come together ready to roll up their sleeves to get something done to address these concerns. This keeps the momentum going. We are seeing progress and are making an impact.

Our plans for the future involve developing partnerships with public, private, faith-based and community organizations that share our goals and want to help develop best practices to address issues.

We intend to do more to get private financial support and grants as well as fundraise to provide the resources to support initiatives that will improve access to healthcare, promote disease prevention and encourage healthy lifestyle changes. We have no plans to be a profit-making organization. We are made up of volunteers. We have received the IRS 501(c)3 nonprofit status, which makes contributing to Healthcare Committee of Collin County(HCCC) more beneficial to our donors.
